When an agency selects individuals for positions that require relocation, travel orders should be requested at once. Generally, the orders are ready in five to ten work days. Normally, employees within CONUS are given 30 calendar days from the time they are officially selected to report to the new duty station. For employees going overseas, 45 calendar days is normally acceptable. However, supervisors and employees can agree to extensions or reductions should
circumstances warrant a change.
An important point to remember is that there are restrictions on reimbursement for relocation expenses when the old and the new duty stations are in the same metropolitan area. Employees should always verify which entitlements apply to them with their Civilian Personnel Advisory Center. (CPAC) staff.
